Since our founding in 2009 by JoePat Roop, Belmont Capital Advisors has grown as an independent firm with solutions ranging from wealth management to retirement planning. In many ways, working with individual investors truly reflects the heart of our firm. This is because we are an organization built on relationships – close, long-term relationships cemented over generations by a spirit of trust, integrity, and transparency.     Founder, President

    Joseph Patrick Roop, called JoePat by friends and clients alike, began his investment career in 1992 as a college intern at Merrill Lynch. Subsequently, he worked as an investment advisor for a number of major banking institutions and investment firms before leaving this corporate environment to provide his clients with a more boutique-style experience.

    In spring 2009, JoePat founded Belmont Capital Advisors, Inc., a boutique investment firm for which he serves as the chief investment strategist. Since his first exposure to the investing arena in 1992, JoePat has been focused on financial planning as well as developing personal relationships with his clients. He takes pride in helping every client create a better financial future and ensuring that they are satisfied with their relationship with Belmont Capital and with JoePat personally. Beyond pride in a good working relationship, he is more than willing to invest his time to create a personal knowledge of his clients and their individual needs and desires. He then does his best to ensure those needs are addressed and that they can look forward to a time of less worry and stress about their life savings.

    Over the past 20 years, the financial investment market has seen a variety of dramatic changes, changes that JoePat has experienced firsthand. His primary goal is always to optimize and monitor client portfolios and to alert clients of pertinent tax information and market and investment changes. His wealth of knowledge and experience is invaluable in providing sound advice and insight not readily available elsewhere.

    In 2013, JoePat was voted Best Financial Advisor in the Gaston Gazette’s annual Best of Gaston. He has also been the recipient of a number of other awards and similar acknowledgements of his success.

    JoePat makes his home in Belmont, North Carolina, with his wife, Gail, and their two children, Henry and Alex.

    Lauren began her career in 2005 as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley, where she served as a primary point of contact for high-net-worth clients to help develop and maintain long-term relationships. Through her decade-long run, she was able to help clients and prospects determine their investment objectives and risk tolerance to craft a comprehensive financial strategy. From there, she served as the director of financial due diligence for Bowman Law Firm until 2018, where she reviewed and analyzed SEC filings and internal issuer documents, such as financial statements and models, marketing materials, loan documents, and more. Since 2018, Lauren has been here at Belmont Capital Advisors, serving our clients with her years of financial experience to work toward their financial and retirement objectives.

    Lauren graduated from North Carolina State University in 2005 with her BS in business management with a concentration in finance. She and her husband, Dean, have two daughters, Gracyn and Nora.

    Steve began his career as a financial advisor in 1999 at A.G. Edwards. After spending five years there, Steve made the decision to move to the independent side of the business, where he would have the ability to give unbiased advice without conflicts of interest between his recommendations and his parent company. Steve founded Centermark Capital in 2006 and served as its principal until joining Belmont Capital Advisors. There, Steve was able to work closely with accounting firms, insurance benefits providers, mortgage and banking companies, and other specialists to provide holistic financial planning solutions to his clients.

    Steve has been working with families and small businesses for over seventeen years. He helps his clients plan and navigate every piece of their financial picture, including investment planning, retirement and estate planning, education planning, and insurance needs planning.

    Steve is a three-time recipient of the Charlotte Magazine Five Star Wealth Managers award and has received numerous other industry recognitions. He has also been interviewed and quoted by several local and industry news outlets, including Fox Business and Registered Rep Magazine.

    Raised in rural New England and educated at Springfield College, Shaun moved to North Carolina over 20 years ago. An industry veteran with over 14 years’ experience, Shaun approaches every client interaction as an educational opportunity, recognizing that every economic and life situation is unique.

  • Jonathan Padgett

    Financial Advisor and Risk Management Coach

    Since 2006, Jonathan has helped clients protect their life savings and their businesses through a variety of risk management strategies.

    After graduating from Appalachian State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, he began his career with Financial Independence Group, where he built a strong foundation in the financial and insurance industries. Prior to joining Belmont Capital Advisors, he had his own firm, Padgett Wealth Group, and before that held a leadership position at BB&T Life Insurance Services.

    Jonathan’s focus is to ensure the firm’s clients have a risk management plan that is current, tax efficient and leveraged so their hard-earned life savings is protected from a variety of risk factors. He holds his Series 6 and 63 licenses as well as his life, health, and long-term care licenses in North Carolina.

    Jonathan lives in Charlotte, NC with his rescue dog, Summer. He is a ministry partner at Lake Forest Church in Huntersville, and he spends additional time volunteering in their youth ministry, Remix. He previously spent several years as a Big Brother through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Charlotte and continues to stay in touch and mentor his “little.” Jonathan enjoys playing golf and participating in volleyball leagues as well as traveling, hiking with Summer and the outdoors.

  • Robert Armstrong

    Financial Advisor and Licensed Insurance Professional

    After a 25-year-long career in the world of broadcast media, Robert Armstrong made a career move to join Belmont Capital Advisors in September of 2020. This shift in focus was caused by his desire to help those nearing or in retirement discover their retirement goals and help create a roadmap to work toward those goals. Robert currently holds his Series 7 and 66 licenses as well as his life and health insurance licenses.

    When working in the world of broadcast, Robert worked for several stations such as Charlotte’s News Talk 1110AM, 99.3FM, WBT and “The Retire(meant) for Living Show.” Additionally, he worked in the real estate industry for 22 years. In 2017, Robert was nominated for Man of the Year by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which he raised $130,000.

    When not in the office, Robert can be found pouring into his hobbies: playing keyboard, piano, boating, and snow skiing.

    Senior Sales Assistant

    Carla Brooks graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Campbell University in 1990 and began her investment career with Merrill Lynch. For the next 19 years, through hard work, dedication, and the desire to make a real difference, Carla moved up through the ranks at Merrill Lynch, beginning as a client associate and moving from registered senior associate to client relationship manager to vice president for the Charlotte, North Carolina, and Cincinnati complexes.

    In 2009, Carla took a position as operations director for Concentra Medical Center, where she spent the next four years.

    In June 2014, Carla was offered a position in Operations for Belmont Capital Advisors, where she now feels she can make the difference she was looking for.

    Carla lives in Belmont, North Carolina, with her two children: Jacob, 12, and Ashlee, 20. She loves to sing, travel, and get lost in a good book.

    Kim Lail has been with Belmont Capital Advisors since 2010 and is their customer service and client specialist.

    When you call the office to schedule an appointment with any of the advisors, Kim’s is the first voice you hear. She has an amazing ability to remember client names and the names of their family members. It is not unusual to hear her chatting with a client and asking, “How’s that new grandchild?” or “How was your knee surgery?” Kim considers all of our clients to be family, and you can be sure she will direct you to the advisor who best fits your needs. Kim also manages the upcoming workshops and events for each advisor.

    Kim lives in Belmont with her husband of 36 years, Charlie. They have two children, Mist and Joseph, and one granddaughter, Rose, who is the love of their lives. Kim has been an active member of South Point Baptist Church for over 30 years. Kim says, “When I am not at the best job a girl could ask for, I love the time spent with my family.”

    Teresa came to Belmont Capital Advisors with a wealth of experience in customer service and office management, which she first received at a print firm and later at a plastics manufacturing firm.

    Teresa began her investment career with Edward Jones in Kings Mountain as branch office administrator and has continued in the industry for the last 21 years.

    A native of Kings Mountain, Teresa is a single mother of one son, Brent. She enjoys music and sings in the church choir and is the director of the handbell choirs. She is also on the board of directors of the Joy Performance Center Kings Mountain Little Theatre, where she has participated in many productions over the last 20 years.
